i just got back from Adelaide, yaaay! Josh and I went to visit my cousin and also to bask in the peaceful vibe that is characteristic of radelaide - or "a-town" as i sometimes call it. So we spent some time at Henley beach where my cousin lives and it is beautiful there.
This is the view from the Bacchus Bar patio. There was this pimp guy smoking a cigar near us. He was supa fly. When we asked him for a light he gave us a lighter with an invisible flame haha. wow.
We hung out at my cousins place for dinner and her housemate's dog RUBY was there, but she wasn't her usual awesome self. Her owner had been away for 7 whole days and we thought she was depressed. She was sulking and whimpering and had swollen facial features and didnt want to be social. Yeah, turned out she was stung by a bee... bad call. We went out to town that night which was fun fun at the Cranka and some other garden place. Oh yeah we saw a 5 minute Burlesque show and Josh was repping it so hard, i've never seen him clap so vigorously! ah it was great.
Oh yeah the next day (Sunday) my auntie came to pick the 3 of us up and we went on a road trip to McLarenvale wine region and did a full day of wine tasting and buying! It's a lovely area, still hilly like the Barossa but more compact, and with a "main street" thing going on. The best part was that my auntie had bottles of water and chips and snacks in the back seat for us like we were kids. It took me back to the days when i would have to be coaxed into a long journey by treats haha. Anyway that night we stayed at a swish hotel on North Terrace called the Oaks Embassy, and it was rad! We had an apartment with a balcony, so we had a big wine and cheese party with our local produce :)
Josh took this from the balcony and he thinks it is amazing. I think it looks like he couldn't get the settings right on the camera, but i have to agree it is like fluro little worms having a rave. On Monday morning we ducked into Target with all our bags and stuff and fucking hell i have never been bag searched so vigourously. this young kid stopped us on the way out asking to look in our back packs and green bags etc. he was like "can you show me that jumper? show me the tag on the back of the neck.." for like all our clothes. and then he wanted to look in the front pocket of my bag and i had my makeup in it so he asked me to show him every peice of makeup and he was like "are these new...?" and i was all "ummm... no look how worn out they are (you fucking tool! get a life quick before i smash your head in with my spare pair of shoes)... we're actually on a holiday which is why we have so much stuff..." he just looked at me like he TOTALLY thought we walked out with a bunch of stolen shit. what a fucker...
Oh yes, and the pièce de résistance of the trip was our final meal for lunch on Monday at our favourite Adelaide eatery... I speak of course of the one, the only VEGO 'N' LOVEN IT on Rundle Street. Let me take you on a visual tour :)

As you can see, you have to know WHEN to go. The guy that owns and runs the place is usually the only one there. Sometimes he has a helper. Anyway picture a tiny studio apartment up a flight of stairs that is painted purple, pink, black, yellow and probably whaterver other scraps of paint he could find. It is chock full of mismatched retro furniture and handmade mosaic mirrors and wall hangings, as well as posters and old TVs and toys and a MASSIVE CD cupboard. The last time we went there he was playing the Lord of the Rings soundtrack haha.
This is Josh's SPICY burger. It looks a mess but it is actually amazing. The bun is toasted Rye with Nuttelex, and then inside they generously pack it full of carrot, lettuce, sundried tomato, avocado, and usually like a tapenade or chutney or something. his looks like a vegan cheese sauce or something is dripping out of it. oh god i am hungry now.
If you find yourself in Adelaide on a weekday between 10am and whenever he says so, go down Rundle Street and see the dude at Vego n Loven It. you will not regret it.
