Food heaven continued

Guys, if I was a gambler.. I'd be on some hell of a winning streak right now! I have had win after win after win in terms of meals lately. Ok, so the last post showed you my dinner on Friday yeah? Mega win. Now I'm gonna show you a bit more of my food exploration on Saturday. So Josh and I slept in until midday, as you do, and then went out around 2 o'clock for some breakfast... lunch... dunch... i guess you'd call it. We went to the Green Refectory cafe on Sydney Rd, Brunswick - more affectionately known as illy. I'm sure I've explained this before - it's the coffee cup brand or something but the illy advertisement sign is bigger than the cafe's sign. Anyway I didn't feel like eggs, so I got some lunch stuff. I thought everything would be small portions so of course I ordered way too much, but it's cheap so it didn't matter! I got a lamb, coriander and pine nut parcel and a trio of salads. Beetroot, lentil and coriander, and rice with cranberries. It was all A+ standard :) 

Then later we hit up the supermarkets to buy some provisions for a light dinner - basic pizzas. I picked up fruit 4 of 5 - RAMBUTAN! Looks a little weather beaten - but I think it adds to the character...

Then we discovered how much fun you can have with the shell...

Quite a bit actually. The taste was very similar to Lychee I thought, and so was the texture and shell etc. Perhaps I should have researched some fruits before buying willy nilly. Looks like i ate two fruits from the same family or something. Man their parents are gonna be pissed at me. Awkward. 

Oh yeah, I have been meaning to post this for a few days now! Here are the paintings I made for Maki and Mel's birthdays! Mel got Marilyn and Maki got Morrisey. Haha, all M's....

I think they are pretty good. For an amateur of course :P Back to food heaven, I also had a big home-made Japanese feast last night with Miso soup, bento boxes with Japanese curry, yakitori, grilled tofu, salad, tuna etc etc. MMMMM! Then I watched Breakfast at Tiffany's with everyone, and I really liked it! A bit long, and sooo different to the book - i think I like the message behind the book better - the movie totally defeated what Capote was trying to say by changing the end. Funny. Poor Capote.

Today I ate left over japanese bento, and tonight I'll be going out to Lygon Street for dinner and a movie with my boys (Josh, brothers and dad). Coooooooooooooooool! I think we're seeing True Grit :D wee-hoo!

This is Didge. Full name Richard Something Glaubitz, i could try to guess a middle name because i am sure we have discussed it before... It's his dad's name or Grandpa's name... Johanness...? Johan...? fuck! His other aliases are: Han Solo, Digimon, Ridgy Didge.. i can't think of any more right now... But he looks like Han Solo.

What does that look like to you? Josh saw this canvas leaning against a wall in a dark empty room at didge's house and was all "oh man, what an awesome BEAR!" and didge was like "uh...yeah a bear... that's what it is..." and eventually after Josh talked about this bear painting for 2 months, Didge said he would love for Josh to have it to keep! Such a nice gesture!! Good work Didge! So now it hangs in our loungeroom for all to admire - and oh how they admire it. So anyway, didge confessed months later that it is actually a Lion but he didn't have the heart to tell Josh. hehe. So now people make up their own minds :) Can you see the creepy skull face?

So as my dad is turning 50 in 2 days time, i was trying to think of something i could get him for his newly painted house that didn't cost much and was sentimental. Well I had the idea of collaborating with Didgimon to make a painting for dear old daddy-o. Then i had to think about subject matter... What on earth could i paint that would impress my dad, the not-so art aficionado. Then i realised there was something nay, someone who my dad loves unconditionally and to a level that would promt him to tattoo his flesh in a sign of adoration. No... it is nobody he knows. It is Billy Joel. The Piano Man, if you will.

My dad has loved Billy Joel since forever, and even got "Second Wind" tattooed in nice cursive writing on his forearm. This was his "i'm divorced now, and possibly having a mini mid-life crisis" stage. So i knew it HAD to be Billy Joel in the painting. I chose the picture above as it is very shadowy. Didge was excited to help me out!

man, i hope my dad doesn't read my blog otherwise on Friday he will tooootally have to fake surprise and i don't know if he can do that. But i'm pretty confident he will not see this. We are nervous to see his reaction because if he doesn't recognise it is Bill yJoel he will be like "uh...great. a picture of a middle aged man....what i've always wanted..." and then we will have to explain what it's meant to be. Does it look Billy Joel-ish????????????? AH!

Lantern Man Painting

I recently bought a whole bunch of cheap tiny canvases in order to heighten my painting skills, so that one day i might be good enough to be pleaded with to do a nude portrait of Johnny Depp. It could happen. Anyway.

Here is Phase 1 of Lantern Man, my newest foray into the painting world. I started with silhouettes as IMO they are easy, i don't see myself going into still life anytime soon. Johnny will be disappointed :D



Next I am going to add some colour, but i kinda like how it looks now, so I am worried i will eff it up.

Phase 2 of lantern man painting with some Orange and Yellow! My fella really loves this painting, and he said he likes it as is. So this is actually COMPLETE LANTERN MAN! YAY!
